Jalandhar April 23 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- The Department of Home Science, in collaboration with the NSS Wing of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, organized a workshop on the theme ‘Anemia-Free India’ to mark the occasion of Poshan Pakhwada. Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra addressed the gathering and highlighted the significance of nutrition, especially in young women, she stated that 57% of women aged between 15 and 49 years are affected by anemia in India.
She emphasized the need to educate students on maintaining a healthy lifestyle through a balanced and nutritious diet. She also added that such workshops guide students towards making healthy choices and it not only encourage NSS volunteers but also helps to spread awareness about nutrition and anemia prevention in rural areas through various NSS camps.
The core focus of the workshop was ‘Mother and Child Nutrition’, which is also the central theme of this year’s Poshan Pakhwada.
Dr. Monika Anand, Head Department of Home Science, served as the resource person. She shed light on the early symptoms of anemia and the importance of diet management to overcome it. She encouraged the inclusion of iron-rich foods in daily meals and introduced students to easy and nutritious recipes such as, Boiled Black Chickpea Chaat, Black Chickpea Cutlets, Beetroot Tikki, Spinach Kofta, Spinach Puri, Strawberry Smoothies etc.
Around 50 students from the Home Science Department and NSS volunteers enthusiastically participated in the workshop. Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra appreciated the dedicated efforts of Dr. Monika Anand and Dr. Simkee Dev in organizing the workshop successfully.
