Jalandhar February 4 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- The D.D. Pant Botanical Society, under the aegis of the Eco Club of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar, in collaboration with the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST), celebrated World Wetlands Day with an educational film screening on Ramsar Sites in India. The event, organized under the able guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen and with special motivation from Dr. Seema Marwaha, Dean Academics was led by Dr. Anjana Bhatia, Head, PG Department of Botany. It aimed to highlight the ecological significance of wetlands and the need for their conservation under the framework of Mission Life (Lifestyle for Environment).
Dr. Ramandeep, Incharge of the D.D. Pant Botanical Society, along with faculty members Dr. Shaveta, Ms. Harpreet and Dr. Shuchi engaged students in discussions on the role of wetlands in climate regulation, groundwater recharge and biodiversity conservation. The screening emphasized the Ramsar wetlands in Haryana and Gujarat, home to endangered species like the Egyptian vulture and Dalmatian pelican. The event concluded with students pledging to protect wetlands and document environmental changes in their surroundings.
Principal Dr. Ajay Sareen appreciated the efforts of the D.D. Pant Botanical Society and Eco Club, reaffirming HMV’s commitment to environmental sustainability and wetland conservation in alignment with Mission Life’s vision of fostering pro-environmental behaviors.
