Jalandhar February 4 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Gurnit Kaur Nijjar, a student of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar pursuing a Bachelor Degree in Design (Multimedia) and an active member of College’s Giddha Team represented India in various cities of South Africa with the courtesy of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).
She got this honour of presenting a splendid presentation of the rich Punjabi culture and folk dance Giddha in the foreign land where Ms. Kaur along with her team showcased the rich culture of Punjab in the cities of South Africa – Pietermaritzburg, Johannesburg, Newcastle and Ladysmith.
It is worth mentioning that she was provided with a White passport by the Government of India which was indeed a matter of pride and honour for her.
This cultural programme was organised to strengthen the cultural exchange between India and South Africa.
Also, being the part of College’s Giddha team, Gurnit Nijjar has participated in Giddha during Zonal and Inter – Zonal Youth Festival organized by GNDU, Amritsar and has bagged first and second positions.
Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra congratulated her and wished her good luck for the future.
Dr. Dhingra added that at Apeejay, students are encouraged for the all-round development which boosts their confidence and thus, they don’t hesitate to leave their comfort zones behind and take up all the opportunities which allow them to spread their wings and showcase their talents.
Dr. Dhingra also acknowledged the efforts of Ms. Lovepreet Kaur of Department of Punjabi for teaching the nuances of Giddha and making her students proficient in it.
