Jalandhar October 21 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- With the objective to equip students with the most essential skills required for securing national and international jobs in today’s world, the Career Counselling and Placement Cell of Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar organized a Special Skill Training Session which witnessed the participation of more than 300 students of various streams in the college.
The event featured expert guidance from three key members of the Career Counselling and Placement Cell – Dr. Charanjit Singh from the PG Department of English, Dr. Navdeep Kumar from the PG Department of Commerce and Management and Dr. Amritpal Singh from the PG Department of Physics.
The event began with a formal welcome of the Chief Guest, Dr. Jaspal Singh, Principal of the college and of the Guest of Honour, Prof. Jasreen Kaur, Vice-Principal of the college. In his inagural address, the Principal said that the different departments and cells of the college are in the constant endeavour to realise the mission of the college Management for providing holistic, skill-oriented and value-based education to the students of Punjab and the neighbouring states. He encouraged the students to come forward and get benefitted by these endeavours.

Opening the first technical session, Dr. Charanjit Singh demonstrated step-by-step how to write an effective cover letter which can compel the hiring authorities to read a candidate’s CV and also how to craft an impressive CV which can make the employers to invite candidates for interviews and subsequently hire them.
Further enriching the session, Dr. Amritpal Singh enlightened the students on the various resources to get information about jobs in the Indian and the global markets and also informed them about the platforms where they can upload their CVs for national and international placements. His special focus on the various funding available in both India and abroad for higher education and research appealed to the students most. In the final leg of the session, Dr. Navdeep Kumar focused on the things that students can do while studying in the college to make their CVs impressive and stand-out.
These include writing for the college magazine The Beas, participating in the various national and international seminars organized by the college from time to time, joining the NCC and NSS. participating in sports and extra-mural activities, and most importantly, doing MOOCs on various national and international patforms, which include Coursera, MIT and Swayam, an online education portal being managed by MHRD, Govt. of India.

At the culmination of the event, Prof. Jasreen Kaur, Vice-Principal of the college, delivered a thought-provoking address wherein she underscored the need of inculcating a positive attitude and humantarian approach in the students for true success in life.
Throughout the event the stage was managed by Dr. Navdeep Kumar who also offered the vote of thanks wherein he thanked the Management, Principal and the Vice-Principal for their encouragement, the worthy members of the faculty who graced the occasion, the students, the media personnels, the administrative staff Sh. Surinder Kumar and Sh. Saroop Lal for providing necessary logistics, the Student-Team of the Career Counselling and Placement Cell comprising Amritpal Kaur, Vanshika and Jasmine of B.A. Sem. I and the supporting staff Sh. Shiv Prasad, Sh. Sukhpal Singh and Sh. Manik.
It needs a special mention that the event was graced by the presence of the esteemed faculty members, who included Dr. Harjit Singh, Head of the Department of Mathematics; Mrs. Navdeep Kaur, Head of the Department of Economics; Dr. Simranjit Singh Bains, Co-ordinator of the Centre for Youth Affairs and Personality Development, Dr. Balraj Kaur from the PG Department of English, Dr. Sandeep Singh from the PG Department of Computer Science and IT, Dr. Harjinder Singh Shekon from the PG Department of Punjabi, Dr. Karanbir Singh from the PG Department of History and Dr. Surbjit Singh from the Department of Zoology.
