Jalandhar October 9 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- The Departments of English and Psychology, Lyallpur Khalsa College, commemorated World Mental Health Day with a programme that brought together performance, reflection and interactive activities centred on the mental well-being of young people. The event featured several student-curated interactive corners, including a Gratitude Corner, an anxiety questionnaire, activities exploring relationships and personality traits, and a Psychological Games Corner. Principal Dr. Rashpal Singh took a keen interest in the corners curated by the students. He participated in the psychological games and filled out the questionnaires himself.
He also pointed out the need to develop new psychological tests that are relevant to our own cultural and social context, rather than relying entirely on tests developed in different cultural settings. Dr. Rashpal also said that that mental health deserves attention, conversation and care. The highlight of the event was a skit presented by students, portraying a group of college students sharing and discussing the concerns that shape their lives—from assignments and academic pressure to career anxiety, from Artificial Intelligence and climate change to parental and peer pressure.
The play emerged from conversations that students had with the Convenor of the event, Dr. Geetanjali Mahajan, about the anxieties and challenges they experience. Dr. Mahajan congratulated the students on their performance and appreciated their ability to transform their real-life concerns into an engaging and meaningful presentation. She also thanked Prof. Raizal under whose guidance different questionnaires and games were curated. The programme provided students with an informal space to reflect on themselves and talk about their concerns. The event was attended by Dr. Balraj Kaur, Dr. Manmeet Sodhi, Dr. Manju Joshi, Dr. Pooja Ralhan and Dr. Jyoti Vohra, along with other faculty members.
