HMV Hosts National Seminar on Recent Advancements in Mathematics

National Seminar

Jalandhar October 7 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- The PG Department of Mathematics of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar, under the insightful guidance and the support of the Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Ekta Khosla, organized a one-day National Seminar on “Recent Advancements and Applications of Pure & Applied Mathematics in Various Fields.”

The seminar aimed to provide an academic platform for faculty members, students, and mathematics enthusiasts to exchange ideas and explore recent developments in mathematics and its diverse applications. The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Deepali, who warmly greeted the Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Ekta Khosla, the invited resource persons, Dr. Anjana Bhatia, the IQAC Coordinator, Dr. Gagandeep, Head of the Department of Mathematics, and all the participants.

Dr. Gagandeep, Head of the Department of Mathematics, served as the Convener of the seminar. In the inaugural session, Dr. Gagandeep introduced the eminent resource persons and spoke about the importance of contemporary mathematical research. The distinguished resource persons were Prof. G. Mahadevan, Professor and Head, Department of Mathematics, Gandhigram Rural Institute, Tamil Nadu; Prof. N. Anbazhagan, Senior Professor and Head, Department of Mathematics, Alagappa University, Tamil Nadu; and Dr. M. Seenivasan, Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics, Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu.

Principal Khosla encouraged the students to develop a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts

Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Ekta Khosla emphasised the growing relevance of mathematics in contemporary research, innovation, and technological advancement. Principal Khosla encouraged the students to develop a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts and their practical applications. The first technical session was delivered by Prof. G. Mahadevan on “Applications of Graphs in the Medical Era.” He elaborated on the practical applications of graph theory in various real-life and medical situations. The second lecture was delivered by Prof. N. Anbazhagan on “Markov Process and Real-World Mathematical Modelling.”

He discussed classical linear and non-linear recurrence relations and demonstrated their applications through examples such as water modelling and population growth. The third technical session was conducted by Dr. M. Seenivasan on “Probability Theory in Real-World Applications.” He explained the role of probability in understanding deterministic and non-deterministic systems and highlighted its significance in practical situations.

This seminar was also attended by five faculty members from Tamil Nadu: Dr. R. Srinivasan, Dr. K. Pattabiraman, Dr. R. Ramesh, Dr. R. Vijayakumar, and Dr. J. Jayaraj. More than 80 students of the Department of Mathematics participated with great zeal and enthusiasm. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Gaurav Verma.
