PCM S.D. College NCC Cadets Extend Dedicated Community Service During Pulse Polio Immunization Drive

Jalandhar July 2 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, has always been a frontrunner not only in the field of quality education but also in nurturing responsible and compassionate citizens by instilling the values of social service, discipline, and community responsibility among its students. Continuing this tradition of selfless service, 18 NCC cadets of the institution enthusiastically participated as volunteers in the Pulse Polio Immunization Drive organized by the Civil Hospital, Jalandhar, from 28th to 30th June 2026.

The campaign aimed to administer life-saving polio drops to children below five years of age, thereby contributing to the Government of India’s mission of ensuring a Polio-Free India. Before the commencement of the drive, the participating cadets underwent a comprehensive orientation and training programme on 26th June 2026. The training was conducted under the guidance of Senior Medical Officer Dr. Indu and Medical Officer Dr. Kirandeep of Civil Hospital, Jalandhar.

Mrs. Baljeet Kaur and Mrs. Aarti, Supervisors of the Pulse Polio Programme, imparted practical training to the cadets regarding the safe administration of the oral polio vaccine, interaction with parents, maintenance of vaccination records, and adherence to essential health and hygiene protocols while handling infants and young children.

During the three-day campaign, the NCC cadets worked shoulder to shoulder with ASHA workers and the medical teams, visiting households across Central Town, Partap Bagh, Dhann Mohalla, Gobindgarh, Arjun Nagar, Old Jawahar Nagar, Kishan Nagar, Mandi Fenton Ganj, Rishi Nagar, Mohalla Inderprasth, Bhai Ditt Singh Nagar, and Bagh Karam Bakhsh. Their dedicated efforts helped the medical teams reach a large number of families and spread awareness about the importance of timely immunization.

As a result of the collective efforts of the health officials, ASHA workers, and NCC volunteers, a total of 5,225 households were covered, and 1,304 children below the age of five years were successfully administered polio drops during the campaign. Sh. Surinder Saini, President of the Jalandhar Welfare Society and a well-known social activist, interacted with the NCC cadets. He appreciated their willingness to serve society and motivated them to continue participating in humanitarian and community welfare initiatives.

President Shri Naresh Budhia, Senior Vice President Shri Vinod Dada, other members of the managing committee and Principal Dr. Pooja Prashar applauded the dedicated efforts of the NCC cadets and appreciated their commitment to community service. She remarked that participation in programmes such as the Pulse Polio Campaign reflects the true spirit of the National Cadet Corps and provides students with meaningful opportunities to serve society beyond the classroom. She further congratulated Major Priya Mahajan, Associate NCC Officer, for continuously motivating the cadets to actively participate in community outreach programmes and for instilling in them the values of discipline, leadership, and selfless service.
