Jalandhar March 26 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Zoology Dept. and Environment Club of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar under DBT Star Scheme and under the able guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs) Ajay Sareen celebrated Organic Holi. Holi, also known as the Festival of Colors, is an ancient Hindu festival celebrated to mark the arrival of spring and the victory of good over evil. All the faculty members and students celebrated the Festival of Colours by using natural, eco-friendly colors and flower petals focusing on the health of individuals and the environment. Further to spread awareness and wish everyone healthy and happy Holi, a message corner for teachers and students was set up.
Student office bearers of ‘Environment Club’ Yashika Arora, Riya, Kiran, Gurleen and Bhawna prepared beautiful cards and badges on this occasion. With great enthusiasm, students from different streams took part in the activities such as Flameless cooking and Eco-friendly Rangoli Making competition and made stunning Rangolis out of environment friendly materials such as rice, beans, corn flour, leaves, flowers, etc. Additionally, students made vibrant, immunity-boosting meals using natural herbs, citrus fruits, broccoli, bell peppers, ginger, garlic, turmeric, and other components, demonstrating effortless healthy eating.
Also, the students prepared natural colours using rice flour, turmeric, beetroot, sandalwood and marigold. Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen appreciated Zoology Dept. and Enviornment Club for the initiative and congratulated students for their efforts to spread awareness regarding use of eco-friendly, herbal and skin-safe colours to avoid the exposure to harmful chemicals. Head of Zoology Department and Dean Academics, Dr. Seema Marwaha, urged the students to inform their loved ones about the risks that artificial colouring products may pose to their health and the environment.
Mrs. Deepshikha was the guest of Honour
Incharge Faculty of Sciences and HOD Chemistry Dept., Mrs. Deepshikha was the guest of Honour and she explained that chemical-based colours are mostly industrial dyes or oxidized metals mixed with oil and include the harmful elements thus motivating the students to use biodegradable materials for making colors and for decorations. Environment Club Incharge, Dr. Sakshi Verma and Co-Incharge Mr. Ravi Kumar guided the students to prepare organic colours and in co-ordinating the various events.
The judges for the day were Mrs. Saloni, Mrs. Purnima, Dr. Simmi and Ms. Harpreet Kaur. The winners in both the competitions were awarded with prizes and e-certificates were provided to all the participants. Lab technician Mr. Sachin, assisted in making all arrangements for the event.
