Jalandhar March 16 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- To explore the potential of organic waste for sustainable energy generation, the Eco Club, in collaboration with the Department of Science of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, organized a One-Day Workshop on “Biogas Generation from Organic Waste: A Sustainable Energy Solution.” The workshop was supported by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, GOI, under the Environment Education Programme, State Nodal Agency Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, and CDC, GNDU.
Dr. Urmila Gupta Phutela, Principal Scientist at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, served as the expert resource person. She conducted insightful sessions on biogas technology, plant design, and its practical applications. Dr. Phutela elaborated on the basics of anaerobic digestion, biogas composition, and various types of feedstock used for biogas production. A key highlight of the workshop was the hands-on experience provided to students, where they learned to feed organic waste into a biogas plant and monitor gas production.
The Interactive sessions and practical demonstrations received an overwhelming response from participants. Many attendees expressed keen interest in adopting biogas solutions at the household level. The event successfully raised awareness about sustainable energy solutions, emphasizing the role of biogas in achieving energy security and environmental conservation.
Dr. Divya Budhia Gupta and Mrs. Shveta Mahajan, In-Charges of the Eco Club, along with Dr. Jyoti Sharma, Ms. Muskan Kalra, and other faculty members from the Department of Science, played a significant role in organizing the event effectively.
President Shri Naresh Budhia, Senior Vice President Shri Vinod Dada, other esteemed members of the Managing Committee, and the worthy Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Pooja Prashar, congratulated the Eco Club and the Department of Science for organizing an inspiring and educational event that fostered scientific exploration and sustainability.
