Jalandhar March 9 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- PG Department of English & NSS Units, Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar hosted an ICSSR Sponsored One Day National Seminar titled, “NEP 2020: Its Significance for Community & Education in North India”. The seminar was organized with a mission to deliberate on the implementation of national education policy 2020 and involvement of major stake holders community and educators focusing on North India. The inaugural session was presided by Hon. Joint Secretary S. Jaspal Singh Warraich. Principal of the institution, Dr. Jaspal Singh welcomed him, key note speaker Dr. Dinesh Chahal and invited speaker Dr. Khushvinder Kumar and other guests with bouquets.

Principal Dr. Jaspal Singh welcomed the gathering asking them to take the opportunity to discuss and share knowledge on the different aspects of NEP 2020. He added that the needs and goals of the education system are changing fast and that our pedagogical strategies need to change too. Convener of the seminar, Prof. Satpal Singh through his concept note briefly hinted at the ancient wisdom, skill and efficiency in our community and posed the arguments to utilize it through NEP 2020. The key note address on the topic “Community engagement through education to utilize ancient wisdom with reference to NEP 2020” was given by eminent educationist, Prof Dinesh Chahal from Central University, Haryana.

Prof Chahal emphasised on the proper utilization of Indian Knowledge System

In his thought provoking talk, Prof Chahal emphasised on the proper utilization of Indian Knowledge System present in our community to revitalize the education system for national development. He added that it is from individual to group and from group to community and from community to the world, we can think about welfare of society and educators have a major role in this aspect.

Invited speaker, Dr. Khushvinder Singh, Ex Principal MM Modi College, Patiala focused his talk on the implementation of NEP 2020 in universities and colleges. He, in detail, expressed different parameters, needs and effects of NEP 2020 and how it is going to impact small and big institutes. He emphasised that skill enhancement of teaching community, innovation in course planning and community engagement can be the formula of survival in this transitional phase in education.

Sant Balvir Singh Seechewal was the chief guest of the event

In technical sessions, paper presenters discussed, debated and deliberated on the pros and cons and suggestions for the improvement in the NEP 2020. In the evening session, Sant Balvir Singh Seechewal was the chief guest of the event. He was welcomed by Principal Dr. Jaspal Singh. During his speech, he emphasised on the community engagement in the welfare of mother earth as degrading environment is the major challenge in the present times. He added that students and educators in collaboration with community can play major role to revive the environment for the universal betterment.

Dr. Balraj Kaur paid vote of thanks and informed that distinguished experts, scholars, researchers and teachers with more than 46 participants from Punjab, Jammu, Himachal Pardesh, Gujarat, and Haryana participated in the seminar. Dr. Geetanjali Mahajan conducted the stage efficiently. Dr. Manju Joshi, Dr. Amandeep Kaur, Dr. Karnbir Singh, Dr. Ajitpal Singh, Dr. Sukhdev Singh Nagra, Dr. Surbjit Singh, Prof. Bhawna, Prof. Kirandeep Kaur worked in unison to organize this seminar successfully. During this seminar, HODs of different departments, teachers and NSS Volunteers and students were present in great number.
