More than 700 students from various schools participate in the workshop

Jalandhar November 29 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) successfully concluded a two day national workshop on “Implementing zero-waste practices and Low-Cost Teaching Aids”. The workshop was organised under a research project granted by the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India to Dr. Pardeep Arora (PI) and Dr. Harpreet Kaur (Co-PI) the faculty of KMV on the topic Developing Low Cost Teaching Aids in Promoting Sustainable Waste Management: Swachh Bharat Paradigms.

Principal Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi during her address, welcomed all the guests and made them aware of the need and importance of sustainable waste management to achieve the objective of Swachh Bharat. Along with this, she also inspired all the youth to strengthen the resolve for a clean India as well as a new emerging India.

Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Shiksha Ratan, a lecturer in Physics at the Government Senior Secondary Smart School in Kalyan, Patiala, participated as keynote speaker in the workshop and delivered an insightful discussion on the intersection of science and daily life, particularly focusing on the theme of cleanliness and environmental hygiene and using low-cost teaching aids to disseminate knowledge. He elaborated on the various scientific principles that underpin our understanding of cleanliness and how these principles can be applied to enhance our efforts in maintaining a clean and sustainable environment.

During his presentation, Dr. Ratan emphasized the critical role that scientific knowledge plays in addressing environmental challenges. He illustrated how scientific advancements and methodologies can be utilized to develop effective strategies for waste management, pollution reduction, and overall environmental conservation. Ms. Barun Kaur Maan, a prominent anchor at Doordarshan and a radio jockey at AIR, engaged in a discussion regarding the advantages of utilising bamboo toothbrushes in place of conventional plastic toothbrushes. She elaborated on the environmental implications of plastic waste, emphasising the need for sustainable alternatives.

Ms. Jyotsna Jain, a distinguished Permaculture Designer, served as the distinguished speaker at the event, where she delivered an insightful presentation on the utilisation of our natural resources. She emphasised the critical importance of recognising how these resources are currently employed in the production of various goods and services. Her discourse highlighted the pressing need for a paradigm shift towards sustainable practices that prioritise the conservation of our environment and the responsible management of resources.

It is pertinent to mention that more than 700 students from various schools namely S.S.S.S Lamba Pind, S.S.S.S Chowgitti, S.O.E Maqsudan , S.S.S.S Gandhi Camp, S.S.S.S Randhawa Masanda Jalandhar, Seth Hukam Chand S.D Public School sodal road Jalandhar, Sada Sukh Chopra Public School Jalandhar participated in this workshop. Madam Principal lauded the efforts of Dr. Pardeep Arora, Head, Department of AI & Data Science, Dr Harpreet Kaur, Head, P. G. Department of Fashion Designing, Research associate Ms. Harleen and the whole organising committee for successfully organising the workshop.
