Jalandhar October 3 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya organized a grand Waste to Wealth exhibition under the Swachhta Hi Seva Mission, with the initiative spearheaded by Principal Dr. Ajay Sareen. The event reflected the institution’s ongoing commitment to promoting environmental awareness and sustainability. The event was inaugurated with great enthusiasm.
Principal Dr. Sareen, while addressing the participants, emphasized the importance of implementing the Swachhta Hi Seva ethos in daily life, stating, “We must focus not only on cleaning our physical surroundings but also on cleansing our minds and hearts.” Her leadership has been instrumental in advancing HMV’s environmental initiatives. She urged all attendees to adopt cleanliness as a way of life, fostering a culture of responsibility toward the environment.
Dr. Anjana Bhatia, Dean of Innovation, echoed these sentiments, reiterating HMV’s deep commitment to the cause of environmental conservation. She highlighted the importance of innovative approaches to waste management, and how creativity can transform junk into useful items, which contributes to reducing carbon footprints. The exhibition, overseen by Dr. Rakhi Mehta, Mrs. Navneeta, and Dr. Shailendra, encouraged students to be resourceful, turning waste into items of value. This event was a true celebration of ingenuity, as students created a variety of functional products from discarded materials, demonstrating how waste could be repurposed creatively. The NSS unit played a significant role in the event.
NSS in-charges, Dr. Veena and Ms. Harmanu, motivated students to actively participate in the Swachhta Hi Seva mission. NSS volunteers not only prepared useful items from waste but also organized a rally to promote the segregation of waste at the source. The rally aimed to spread awareness about the importance of sorting waste for better recycling and disposal practices.
A pledge was taken by all participants to implement Swachhta Hi Seva
To further solidify their commitment, a pledge was taken by all participants to implement Swachhta Hi Seva practices in their daily lives, making cleanliness an integral part of their lifestyle. In collaboration with Team Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, Dr. Minakshi Duggal also participated in the event, contributing to the educational aspect of the exhibition by showcasing how such initiatives align with national goals of sustainable development. Her involvement emphasized the broader impact of local initiatives on national missions.
Adding to the diverse participation, students from HMV Collegiate Senior Secondary School took part under the guidance of Co-Cordinator Mrs. Arvinder. Their involvement highlighted the enthusiasm of younger students in embracing environmental causes and contributing to the broader mission of waste management. At the conclusion of the event, Principal Dr. Ajay Sareen distributed planters to all participants, symbolizing the ongoing commitment to nurturing a greener future. The planters were a fitting reminder of the need to care for the environment as we nurture plants—both acts requiring consistent care and attention.
The Waste to Wealth exhibition was a resounding success, drawing attention to the importance of sustainability and creative waste management. It not only raised awareness among the students but also inspired the community to adopt cleaner, greener practices. The event is part of HMV’s larger effort to integrate environmental consciousness into the institution’s ethos, fostering a generation of eco-conscious leaders.
