COPS SEIZE 1 KG OPIUM AND ONE TRUCK USED FOR ITS TRANSPORTATION
ANOTHER BLOW TO JHARKHAND-PUNJAB DRUG SUPPLY CHAIN: SECOND BREAKTHROUGH IN TWO WEEKS
Jalandhar November 6 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- In a significant blow to interstate drug trafficking, Jalandhar Rural Police have successfully intercepted 1 kg of opium and arrested one person while dismantling a drug supply chain operating between Jharkhand and Punjab. The operation was led by the CIA Staff Jalandhar Rural Police, marking their second major breakthrough against interstate drug smuggling in just two weeks.
The arrested accused has been identified as: Sukhwinder Singh alias Sukha s/o Karnail Singh r/o Village Pandori Arayan, PS Dasuha, District Hoshiarpur.
Speaking about the success of the operation, Senior Superintendent of Police Jalandhar Rural, Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh, said that this arrest underscores the relentless commitment of Jalandhar Rural Police in eliminating interstate drug networks. The operation was executed under the supervision of . Jasrup Kaur IPS, SP (Investigation), DSP Sarwanjit Singh and with the team led by Inspector Pushap Bali incharge of CIA Staff Jalandhar, who were conducting vehicle checking at high-tech police checkpoint in Jandu Singha area under police station Adampur.
On November 5, 2024, while conducting regular vehicle checking, the police team intercepted a white-colored truck (PB07-AB-4677) at Y-Point, Jandu Singha, after the driver attempted to evade the police blockade. Upon thorough checking, the team recovered 1 kg of opium concealed in a black wax-sealed packet hidden behind the driver’s seat.
In this regard a case FIR No. 150 dated 05-11-2024 u/s of NDPS Act has been registered at PS Adampur, District Jalandhar Rural.
During initial questioning, Sukhwinder Singh revealed that he has been working as a truck driver for the past 20 years. He confessed to sourcing the opium from a dhaba in Champaran, Jharkhand, and was involved in its supply within Jalandhar vicinity.
The arrested accused will be produced in the local court, and police remand will be sought to investigate forward and backward linkages in the interstate drug supply chain.
This is the second breakthrough in just two weeks to dismantle the opium supply chain from Jharkhand. Earlier, the CIA police team recovered 2 kg 31 gram opium and seized one truck on the same route, said SSP Khakh.
“We maintain a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking, especially interstate drug cartels operating between Jharkhand and Punjab,” said SSP Khakh, affirming continued action against drug-related activities in the district.
