Jalandhar December 26 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Under the dynamic leadership of Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Ekta Khosla, the third day of the 7-Day Special NSS Camp organized by NSS unit of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya Jalandhar, at Village Lidhran was observed with great enthusiasm and dedication under the theme “Health, Hygiene, and Social Awareness.” The theme aimed to sensitize volunteers and villagers about healthy living practices, social evils and responsible citizenship. The day began with the morning assembly, where the volunteers recited the DAV Gaan followed by the song Hum Hoge Kamyab, which infused the environment with patriotic spirit, unity, and high enthusiasm. The atmosphere was filled with positivity and a strong sense of social commitment.

Thereafter, the Day Report of Day 2 was presented by the volunteers Radhika of Urja group gave report in Punjabi, Anuradha of Seva Sankalp group in Hindi and Pranjali from NSS Warriors gave report in English, all highlighting the activities conducted on the previous day. After reviewing the report, Mrs. Satinder Kaur along with Ms. Harmanu, NSS Programme Coordinator, briefed the volunteers about the activities planned for the day. Detailed instructions were given regarding rallies, awareness campaigns, and community interaction to ensure disciplined and effective execution of the programmes. Subsequently, the volunteers proceeded to Village Lidhran, where they were given a warm and heartfelt welcome by the village residents.

The gesture reflected the hospitality, warmth, and communal harmony of the villagers and created a positive and respectful environment for the day’s activities. Then rally against drug abuse was organized. The volunteers raised awareness by chanting powerful slogans. The rally aimed to educate villagers, especially the youth, about the harmful effects of drug addiction on health, family, and society.

Following the rally, An awareness session on Food Adulteration was conducted by Prof. Vandana Thakur, Assistant Professor in Chemistry of the college. She explained, in a practical and simple manner, how commonly used food items such as milk, turmeric, chilli powder, and pulses are adulterated. She demonstrated easy household tests to identify adulteration, such as checking milk with water tests, identifying artificial colors in spices, and observing texture and smell changes in food items. She emphasized that awareness about food purity is essential for maintaining good health and preventing diseases.

A Nukkad Natak was performed on the theme “Nasha Tyago, Punjabiyo Jago”, effectively conveying the message of staying away from substance abuse. The street play received appreciation from the villagers for its strong social message and impactful performance. The volunteers also carried out a door-to-door awareness campaign in the village, educating residents about personal hygiene, cleanliness, safe drinking water, balanced diet, and sanitation practices. The villagers actively interacted with the volunteers and appreciated their efforts.

In the post-lunch session, a poster-making competition was organized on themes “Reduce Waste for Greener Tomorrow” and “Women Empowerment” where volunteers showcased their creativity Additionally, a tree lime-washing (whitewashing) activity was carried out in the college hostel ground, reinforcing the importance of environmental care alongside health initiatives.

On this occasion, Associate Members of NSS, Mr. Neeraj Aggarwal, Dr. Shalinder Kumar and Dr. Baljinder Singh, were also present and encouraged the volunteers to actively participate in the activities, emphasizing the importance of health awareness, social responsibility, and community service. The third day of the NSS Special Camp concluded successfully with meaningful community engagement and active participation of all volunteers.
