On the second day of NSS Camp ‘Sanspandan’ at Apeejay College of Fine Arts students practiced yoga and learned ways to protect environment

Jalandhar January 11 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- On the second day of NSS Camp at Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, the students practiced yoga and while understanding the significance of Yoga to achieve healthy body and mind and the Millet crop.

Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra expressing her views about the ‘Sanspandan’ camp organized by NSS, said that with this seven-day NSS camp, it is our motto to educate NSS volunteers in every aspect of living a healthy life while preserving the environment at the same time. Also, we want our students to be the lamp and guide others as well about the same.

Dr. Vinod Kumar, Principal, B.Ed College, Dayalpur, who has been continuously dedicated to Yoga for the last 30 years interacted with the students and practiced Yoga asanas with them. He also taught them Pranayama and its many benefits for physical and mental balance and other exercises for flexibile body. He also added that yoga can certainly add years to one’s life.

Addressing the students on the topic ‘Millets for Health and Nutrition’, Dr. Monika Anand Head, Department of Home Science saud that millets are not only better from health point of view but also play an important role in the protection of the environment. This is a crop that can be grown with less water, less fertilizer and less chemicals. She added The United Nations declared the year-2023 as the International Year of Millets.

Dr. Gagan Gambhir from the Department of Design and Textile addressed the students

In addition to this, Dr. Gagan Gambhir from the Department of Design and Textile addressed the students with the emphasis on topic ‘Designing a Better Future’. He asserted that the single use plastic carry bags which all of us use for our convenience pollute the environment and also puts the life of animals in danger. It pollutes the water bodies. He added that the one of the reasons of flood in Mumbai in 2005 was plastic blockages.

Also, under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the students of Design department of ACFA has prepared smart bags so that everyone could be encouraged and motivated to use these which helps to reduce the use of plastic. NSS wing students Kritina, Vanshika and Pragya played an important role in making the programme successful by conducting the stage. Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra appreciated the efforts of Dr. Simkee Dev, NSS Dean for the success of the camp on the second day.
