Jalandhar December 27 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- A Faculty Development Programme on ‘Sustainable Development Goals’ was organized at Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar. In this FDP, as Resource Person, Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra addressed the faculty members on the subject. Addressing the gathering, she first introduced the topic putting forth that Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 global objectives established by the United Nations in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
These goals address a wide range of interconnected challenges, including poverty eradication, environmental sustainability, social equity, and economic growth, all under the guiding principle of “leaving no one behind.” Succeeding the Millennium Development Goals, the SDGs are universally applicable to all nations, regardless of development status, and aim to foster peace, prosperity, and planetary health and to achieve these goals, creativity, information, technology, and financial resources of all the people of the society are needed.
Dr. Dhingra emphasized that United Nations believes that we cannot move forward only by developing ourselves
Dr. Dhingra emphasized that United Nations believes that we cannot move forward only by developing ourselves. If a problem like poverty remains in any country, then one day it will affect other countries’ prosperity as well and pose a threat to its development. The development of whole world is possible only when all countries produce and consume responsibly.
Quoting the former Prime Minister and the renowned Economist, Dr. Manmohan Singh from ASEM Summit held in Beijing in 2008; Dr. Dhingra asserted that to attain Sustainable Development Goals at World level is certainly not an easy task and just discussing and talking about these is not enough and all the countries need to work together in order to attain these goals.
Self-centred development can never be sustainable whether it is about environmental protection, economic development, protection of aquatic life, nutritious food or the right to equality in society without any discrimination. Dr. Neerja Dhingra also emphasized that migration to the developed nations is certainly not the solution for it will only lead to become a problem there in the future.
Dr. Dhingra praised the efforts of Dr. Anjana Kumari and Ms. Rajni Kumar, in-charge of FDP for successfully organizing it. Ms. Paridhi Tuli of Department of English played an important role in making this programme successful by conducting the stage gracefully.
