Jalandhar April 12 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- World TB Day was celebrated in dedicating World health day was celebrated by Baba Jiwan Singh Ji Welfare Youth Club at S.D.S Government College Jadla. Nehru Yuva Kendra Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India & Youth Services Department of (Government of Punjab) S.B.S Nagar The aim of celebrating this day was to spread awareness about TB among the people and to understand this epidemic. Meanwhile, various departments and teachers of the college participated in the seminar with important information about TB. Shri Kirti Kalyan Ji, a servant of Darbar Roza Sharif Mandali & a prominent social worker, attended the seminar as the chief guest.

The Vice Principal of the college, Mrs. Priya Baba and her entire staff welcomed them on their arrival at the college. Mrs.Priya Bawa, while presenting her views on World TB Day, said that TB has been threatening the health of humanity for a long time. This is a significant example of infection which cannot be ignored. She said that TB not only causes physical harm but also affects psychologically and socially. She said that TB should always be identified and treated early.

Proper instructions were given for the treatment of TB. She said that if a person faces the symptoms of TB, then he should treat himself as per the doctor’s instructions.

Addressing the children, Mr. Kirti Kalyan told them that to fight tuberculosis or TB, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared March 24 as World TB Day. The Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine was first administered to humans in 1921. The National Tuberculosis Control Program was implemented from 1962 to control the disease.

He said that TB is treated free of cost by the government. All TB patients are provided free examination and quality medicines and financial assistance of Rs. 500 per month during treatment. He also told about the symptoms of TB like cough, fever, sweat and fatigue etc. We should take care of all the aspects while struggling with physical problems. In this seminar, a poster making competition was also organized by the students in which the students made various posters related to TB.

B.Com semester 6 student Bikram Kumar made the students aware of the history of TB epidemic and presented his views on its symptoms and its prevention.

At the end of this seminar, the Vice Principal of the college, Madam Priya Bawa Ji, thanked Mr. Kirti Kalyan Ji and gave a message to the students to share the ideas heard today with the people around them and make them aware about this disease. On this occasion, all the college staff and college students were present.

At the end of the program, refreshments were served to the children by the club.
