National Seminar on ‘Viksit Bharat @2047: Achieving Sustainable Development Goals’ organized at HMV

Jalandhar March 1 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- The PG Department of Economics of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar, in collaboration with ICSSR North Western Regional Centre, organized a national seminar on ‘Viksit Bharat @2047: Achieving Sustainable Development Goals’ under the vibrant leadership of Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen. The seminar aimed to foster innovation, sustainability, and disciplined growth among the youth, with participation The seminar started with the lighting of the holy lamp followed by DAV Gaan. Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen welcomed the resource persons and all the participants.

In her address, Dr. Ajay Sareen said that HMV remains committed to fostering a culture of research, innovation, and academic excellence, encouraging students and scholars to actively contribute to India’s progress and sustainability. She also motivated the participants to be considerate towards environment. She emphasized to be highly conscious while using energy resources.

She inspires every student to use energy resources prudently by saying that in HMV alternate energy resources are taken into great consideration like Solar Generator, Solar Light, Solar Gysers, Rain Water Harvesting Unit and Recycling Paper Machine are used with the purpose of reducing wastage of energy resources so that these can be saved for posterity. She concluded her words by saying that the progress of any nation depends on the use of energy resources wisely.

Dr. Shallu Batra, Head of PG Deparment of Economics and seminar coordinator, introduced the resource persons and the seminar topics. The inaugural session was graced by Dr. Shiv Kumar, Principal Scientist and Head, Division of Markets and Trade-ICAR-National Institute of Agricultural Economics & Policy Research (NIAP), New Delhi, as the Keynote Speaker, who emphasized the role of research, innovation, and skill development in nation-building. Chief Guest Mr. Y.K. Sud, a philanthropist and a Chartered Accountant, was recognized for his unwavering support and contributions to the institution as he has played a vital role in promoting financial literacy and ethical leadership. His generous donations towards the college have significantly aided in its growth and academic excellence.

The seminar was honored by the presence of Prof. Navneet Kaur Arora, UILS, Panjab University, Chandigarh, whose insightful contributions enriched discussions on policy, governance and sustainability, reinforcing the seminar’s vision for Viksit Bharat. The next session featured distinguished experts, including: Prof. Surinder Mor (Senior professor BPS Mahila University, Sonipat, Haryana); Prof. Gurjeet Kaur (Professor of Marketing, University of Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir); Dr. Swati Mehta (Asst. Professor, Punjab School of Economics, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar); Shri Pradeep Kumar Verma (Principal Director Central Institute of Hand Tools Jalandhar, Ministry of MSME); Ms. Manisha (Senior Statistical Officer, NSO (FOD), Regional Office, Jalandhar).

The seminar also included two parallel technical sessions, where research paper presenters explored diverse sub-themes on India’s development and sustainability, fostering intellectual exchange and innovative solutions. The event concluded with a valedictory session, featuring an address by Professor Kamal Vatta (Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana), who emphasized the significance of sustainable development and interdisciplinary collaboration in realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat.
