Jalandhar February 24 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Lyallpur Khalsa College is known for its achievements in academics, sports and extracurricular activities and college administration does not leave any stone unturned for the overall growth of its students and teachers. Keeping this intact, the Department of Physical Education and Sports of the college organized Annual Sports Day to provide a platform to its students to showcase their talents. The chief guest of the event was the olympion, statesman and MLA S. Pargat Singh. He was duly received by the Principal of the college along with Dean Sports and piloted to the main venue by NCC cadets.
Principal Dr. Rashpal Singh Sandhu and Dean Sports along with Heads of various departments gave a floral welcome to S. Pargat Singh. He along with the senior staff members was introduced to the lined up players. Principal Dr. Sandhu in his address appreciated the zeal and zest of the chief guest for the sports events. He emphasized on the fact that physical activities reduce stress levels and promote mental well being of the individuals which are the major health concerns around the globe.
S. Pargat Singh in his address reminicised his days in LKC grounds. He said that the physical activities and consistent practice of any game on the ground does not go in vain. He added that sports build up stamina and the body remains active. He appealed to the youth to participate in physical activities and sports and stay away from drugs which will naturally contribute to the mission of nation building. He flagged off the sports meet with good wishes for all the participants. The event started with the volleyball match between Arts Avengers and Science Smashers.
In the 800 m boys race Sukhjinder Singh, Anand Sharma, Chandan Jassal got first, second and third positions respectively
In the chain of events, volleyball, 800 m race shot-put and long jump were competed by boys while girls participated in Fun & Fitness Race, tug of war, shot put and three legged race. The parallel running of the events with such a variety presented a spectacle to behold. Dr. Simnranjeet Singh Bains, Dean Sports said that the whole event, planned and executed by the Dept. of Physical Education and Sports focused on fun and fitness. He informed that during this event, in volleyball boys Arts Avengers won the first position while Computer Crusaders grabbed second and Commerce Champions remained third. In long jump boys Avinash, Naem Abass and Nirbhay got first, second and third positions respectively while in shot put boys Sahilpreet, Tarunpreet, Taranpreet were declared first, second and third winners respectively. In female events, like Fun and Fitness Science Smasher won the first position while Art Avengers grabbed second and Commerce Champions remained third, while in shot put Amrit Kaur, Manroop Kaur, Harkirat Kaur were declared first, second and third winners respectively. In Tug of Wa Arts Avengers won the first position while Computer Crusader grabbed second and Commerce Champions remained third.
Three legged race were also organized the result of which are First position- Ashima, Palak (B.Com Sem-II) Second position- Ramandeep, Gurleen (BSc.Med Sem-II) Third position- Simran, Anjali (BPT-III). Later, Tug of war and lemon race were also organized for the teaching and non-teaching staff in which Teaching Staff in tug of war and in lemon race Prof. Livpreet, Prof. Kiran/Vishali and Prof. Navjot Kaur got first, second and third positions respectively. At last, Dr. Bains paid a vote of thanks and acknowledged the sincere efforts of all the teaching and non-teaching staff.
