Jalandhar February 2 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- The NSS unit of Innocent Hearts College of Education under the aegis of DISHA-an initiative by Bowry Memorial Educational and Medical trust celebrated World Wetlands day with the theme – ‘Wetlands and traditional knowledge: Celebrating cultural heritage’.

Creative wetland pot painting competition was organised to raise awareness amongst the student-teachers about the vital role of wetlands for people and the planet and the immense need of restoring wetlands. NSS volunteer Kavita Giri and Purnima Sethi achieved first prize in disseminating the message of valuing, managing, restoring and loving wetlands through their realistic pot paintings. Megha Sharma, Ritika Kaura and Isha Bajaj bagged second prize by creatively crafting migratory birds, fishes and animals symbolising the importance of wetlands in saving the lives of many endangered species.

Principal Dr. Arjinder Singh, NSS Programme officer Ms. Tarunjyoti Kaur and all the NSS volunteers took pledge to take necessary steps for restoring, conserving and using wetlands sustainably. Certificates were given to all the participants.
