HMV organized Guest Lecture on “MicroRNA and induced pluripotent stem cells”

Jalandhar November 28 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Under the aegis of the DBT Star College scheme, Government of India, Departments of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya organised a guest lecture on “MicroRNA and induced pluripotent stem cells”. Dr. Jaspreet Singh, Scientist, Henry Ford Health System, Michigan, USA was the resource person of the event. Dr. Jaspreet explained about the concept of micro RNAs and Stem Cells and their applications in developing novel therapeutics for paediatric brain diseases. He also emphasized on the importance of multi-OMICS approaches and the vital role of bioinformatics in discovering novel insight into various biological processes.

The story about his journey from Amritsar to Michigan, USA as Scientist in one of the top research institute in the world was very inspiring for the student. Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen congratulated the entire organizing committee for taking this initiative to make students aware about the latest concept of micro RNA based drug discovery. Mrs. Deepshikha, Faculty Head Sciences & Head PG Department of Chemistry, Dr. Seema Marwaha, Dean Academics & Head Department of Zoology, Dr. Saloni Sharma Head PG Department of Physics, Dr. Jitendra Kumar Head Department of Biotechnology and Dr. Harpreet Singh, Head Department of Bioinformatics welcomed Dr. Jaspreet Singh to the premises of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar.

Dr. Seema Marwaha presented formal welcome on behalf of Madam Principal. Dr. Jitendra Kumar presented the vote of thanks. The guest lecture was attended by students from various science departments. During this occasion Dr. Anjana Bhatia, Dr. Shweta Sharma, Mr. Sumit Sharma, Mrs. Purnima, Dr. Ramandeep Kaur, Dr. Simmi Garg, Ms. Harpreet Kaur, Dr. Sakshi Verma, Dr. Shuchi Sharma, Mr. Ravi Kumar, Mr. Arvind Chandi and Mr. Tirath were also present.
