Jalandhar August 31 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- The Environment Club and the PG Department of Zoology of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar, organized a Rakhi-Making Competition on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan under the expert guidance of Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Ekta Khosla. The event was organized with the objective of celebrating the values of love, protection and responsibility towards society and the environment. As part of the celebrations, Seed Rakhi and Card-Making Competitions were organized for the students. The participants displayed great enthusiasm and creativity while preparing attractive and innovative Rakhis using eco-friendly and biodegradable materials.
The Seed Rakhis conveyed a significant environmental message by beautifully integrating the traditional spirit of Raksha Bandhan with the concept of nurturing and protecting nature. The Designing Hub Society of the Design Department, under the supervision of Dr. Rakhi Mehta, also organized Thali Decoration and Rakhi-Making Competitions for the students. These activities provided the students with a platform to showcase their artistic talents and creativity through a blend of traditional and contemporary designs.
The best Rakhis prepared by the students were sent to the Commissioner of Police as a gesture of appreciation and respect for police personnel who work tirelessly to ensure the safety, security and well-being of citizens, especially women. The celebrations also featured stalls showcasing eco-friendly bags and gift wraps prepared by the students of the Fashion Designing Department under the guidance of Mrs. Navneeta. In addition, the Home Science Department, under the guidance of Mrs. Vandana, displayed handmade chocolates prepared by its students. The stalls received an encouraging response from the visitors and promoted the values of creativity, entrepreneurship and the adoption of sustainable alternatives.

A special Vriksha Bandhan activity was also organized, during which Rakhis prepared by the Student Council were tied around trees. Through this symbolic gesture, the students took a pledge to protect trees and contribute towards environmental conservation. The activity was conducted under the guidance of Dean Student Council, Mrs. Urvashi Mishra. Another highlight of the celebrations was Rakhi Sakhi, wherein Principal Dr. Ekta Khosla tied a Rakhi on the wrist of Mrs. Vani Vij, Director, Dainik Savera. The gesture symbolised mutual respect, affection and the enduring bond celebrated through Raksha Bandhan.
Principal Dr. Khosla appreciated the sincere efforts of the Environment Club for organising such meaningful activities that successfully combined tradition with environmental awareness and social responsibility. Dr. Seema Marwaha, Head, PG Department of Zoology and Dean Academics, highlighted the values of love, care, protection and responsibility associated with Raksha Bandhan. She also appreciated the students for celebrating the festival in an environmentally conscious and responsible manner.
The event was coordinated by Dr. Sakshi Verma and Mr. Ravi Kumar, In-charge and Co-In-charge of the Environment Club. Their dedicated efforts, along with the active participation of faculty members and students, contributed to making the celebrations meaningful, creative and engaging.
