Eco Club of PCM SD College for Women holds Guest Lecture

Jalandhar April 20 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Eco Club of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar in collaboration with Punjab State Council for Science and Technology and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, successfully organized a guest lecture on “Awareness Regarding Millets” under the Environment Education Program.

The lecture aimed to educate attendees about the nutritional and environmental benefits of millets, emphasizing their significance in sustainable agriculture.

Dr. Nitika Kapoor, Assistant Professor, Department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, delivered an insightful presentation. She highlighted the crucial role played by millets in enhancing soil health and biodiversity conservation. She emphasized that millets are gluten-free, making them suitable for individuals with dietary restrictions and those managing diabetes.

The lecture included interactive Question and Answer segments, allowing participants to inquire about millet varieties, cooking methods, and market availability. This engagement fostered a deeper understanding of the topic among attendees.

Mrs. Divya Budhia, In-charge of the Eco Club, expressed gratitude to Dr. Nitika Kapoor for her informative session, underscoring the importance of integrating millets into mainstream diets for improved public health outcomes.

President Shri Naresh Budhia, Senior Vice President Shri Vinod Dada, other members of the managing committee and Principal Prof. (Dr.)Pooja Prashar commended the Eco Club’s efforts in spreading awareness among students about sustainable farming practices associated with millet cultivation. Dr. Jyoti Sharma graciously hosted the event. The event underscored the importance of environmental conservation and public health in the context of food consumption choices.
