Jalandhar August 12 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, organised various competitions on the occasion of International Youth Day. The college constantly hosts different contests to boost the confidence of its students. Continuing this tradition, the College’s Student Central Association and NSS Wing celebrated International Youth Day.
Expressing her views on the occasion, Dr. Neerja Dhingra said that 12th August was first declared as International Youth Day in 1999 by the United Nations General Assembly. It serves as an annual celebration of the role of young girls and boys as essential partners in change, creating awareness about the challenges and problems faced by youth worldwide, and helping them work towards solutions. She added that, according to UNICEF, India has the largest youth population — 371 million people aged between 15 and 29 — who can play a vital role in bringing about positive change globally.
To mark the day, several competitions were held for students, including poetry recitation, essay writing, reel making, rangoli, and poster making, introducing them to the importance of the occasion.
Dr. Dhingra appreciated the efforts of programme coordinators Dr. Seema Sharma, Dr. Monika Anand, Dr. Jagmohan Mago, and Dr. Simkee Dev for guiding the students’ energy in a positive direction and familiarising them with the significance of such special days.
