Expressing her views on the topic ‘Fashion the Stylish Killer’, Madam Rajni Gupta said that the Fashion industry is the second biggest industry that contributes to the pollution on this earth. Either its the fast fashion or the latest trends, it is done at the cost of air and water pollution.

Ms. Gupta said that about 20,000 liters of water is wasted in making a T – shirts and jeans

Also, water used for dyeing clothes is neither fit for drinking nor for farming. Talking of the working conditions, she said that big entrepreneurs get their work done by artisans on low wages, in unsafe buildings, suffocating environment and sometimes child labour is also involved in this. Ms. Gupta said that about 20,000 liters of water is wasted in making a T – shirts and jeans.

She also put forth that must focus on 3 Rs – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. In truth, only 1% of clothes are recycled. So, one must understand that less consumption, styling can go long way to attain this goal. We must use the same clothes in different ways. If needed, we can also use each other’s clothes. She added while shopping too, we must keep in mind to invest in environmental friendly brands.

Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra expressing her views regarding the significance of the topic said, “The way threat of pollution is constantly increasing, we need to adopt the seventeen goals given by UNO for sustainable development in our lives and for that we need to focus on producing responsibly, consume consciously and adopt sustainability in every aspect of our lives. The action needs to be taken today else there shall nothing be left for the future generation.

Ms. Chetna of Department of English handled the stage gracefully. Dr. Dhingra appreciated the efforts of Dr. Anjana Kumari and Madam Payal Arora (Incharges, FDP) for successfully organizing the FDP.
