Jalandhar May 13 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- A condolence meeting was held by the Post Graduate Punjabi Department of Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar on the untimely demise of eminent Punjabi poet and thinker Padmashri Dr. Surjit Patar. Principal Dr. Jaspal Singh, Dr. Surinder Pal Mand Head Punjabi Department, staff and students also participated in this meeting. On this occasion, Principal Dr. Jaspal Singh said that with the sudden death of Dr. Patar, while his family has suffered a great loss, the field of Punjabi literature and thought has also suffered an irreparable loss.

He said that Dr. Patar has created a special recognition of Punjabi literature and language all over the world and his contribution to the field of Punjabi poetry cannot be forgotten. Dr. Surinderpal Mand, Head of the Punjabi Department, presented his views on the contribution made by Dr. Surjit Patar in the field of Punjabi language, harmony and thought. He said that due to Dr. Patar’s sudden departure from this world, Punjab has lost a leader of Punjab, Punjabi language and Punjabi people at the national and international level.

He said that Dr. Patar was a native of village Pattar Kalan of district Jalandhar and he worked as a professor in Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana for a long time. He received the Bharatiya Sahitya Akademi Award for his book of poetry Sulagadi Varnamala in Darkness and was also honored with the Padma Shri Award by the Government of India for his services to the field of literature.
