Jalandhar August 18 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, has always been committed to sensitising its students towards their social responsibilities and encouraging them to contribute towards building a responsible and harmonious society. In continuation of this endeavour, the college’s Anti-Ragging and Anti-Sexual Harassment Committee organised Anti-Ragging Week from 12 August to 18 August 2026.
During the week, students were made aware of the serious issue of ragging and its adverse impact on individuals. The students of the Anti-Ragging Committee took a pledge that they would neither participate in ragging themselves nor encourage or support anyone involved in such an act. They also resolved to motivate others to stay away from this social evil.
As part of the awareness campaign, the students presented an impactful street play under the direction of Mr. Amandeep Singh. Through the performance, the students highlighted the emotional trauma and distress caused by ragging and conveyed a strong message against the practice. An awareness rally was also organised by the students of the Anti-Ragging Cell, spreading the message of zero tolerance towards ragging and encouraging students to uphold a safe and harmonious campus.
Various competitions, including Poetry Recitation, Essay Writing, Reel Making and Poster Making, were organised during the week to engage students creatively in spreading awareness about anti-ragging.
In the Poetry Recitation Competition, Diya secured the first position, Megha and Himani secured the second position, while Shivam and Jahnavi secured the third position. In the Reel Making Competition, Megha Thakur won the first position; Shreya Grover, Milanjot Kaur and Vani Nalin secured the second position; and Varun Gaba, Vishnu Bhargava and Pratham Singh secured the third position.
In the Essay Writing Competition, Tamanna secured the first position, Shivam and Mehak secured the second position, while Diya, Megha Thakur and Vishnu secured the third position. In the Digital Poster Making Competition, Megha Thakur secured the first position, Riddhi Gupta the second, and Tulsi the third. In the Handmade Poster Making Competition, Lionpreet Kaur secured the first position, Sapna Chawla the second, and Vanshika the third.
Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra, while expressing her views on the organisation of Anti-Ragging Week, said that there is no question of ragging taking place in the college; however, such initiatives are important to sensitise students and create awareness about the harmful effects of this social menace. She congratulated the students of the Anti-Ragging Committee for successfully organising the week and appreciated their efforts in spreading awareness.
Dr. Dhingra also lauded the efforts of Dr. Seema Sharma and Dr. Monika Mogla, In-charges of the Anti-Ragging and Anti-Sexual Harassment Committee, Programme Coordinators Dr. Kewal Nailwal and Dr. Payal Arora, and all those involved in making the event successful. She emphasised that such initiatives should continue to raise awareness among students about social evils and help lay the foundation for a more responsible and harmonious society.
Dr. Chetna Sharma from the Department of English, along with students Jia and Shivam Sharma, played an important role in the successful conduct of the programme through their effective stage anchoring.
