Jalandhar March 18 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- A seminar-cum-workshop on “Isolation and Identification of Nematodes from Soil and Plant Roots” was organized by PG Department of Zoology under the expert guidance of Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Ekta Khosla. The event aimed to provide students with both theoretical knowledge and practical exposure to important techniques used in nematology and agricultural research. The resource person for the seminar was Dr. Puja Ohri, Professor, Department of Zoology, Guru Nanak Dev University. The program began with a green welcome of the resource person by Principal Dr. Ekta Khosla and Dr. Seema Marwaha, Dean Academics and Head of PG Department of Zoology.

Dr. Puja Ohri delivered an informative seminar highlighting the significance of plant parasitic nematodes in agriculture and their impact on crop productivity. She elaborated on eco-friendly approaches for the management of nematodes and emphasized the importance of sustainable agricultural practices. Dr. Ohri also motivated students to pursue research with dedication and perseverance, sharing valuable lessons from her own academic journey. Her talk inspired students to think critically and encouraged them to explore new opportunities in scientific research. The seminar was followed by a hands-on training session conducted by research scholars Ms. Roohi and Mr. Vikram, working under the supervision of Dr. Ohri in Nematology Lab at GNDU Amritsar.

During the workshop, they demonstrated the techniques for isolation of nematodes from soil and plant samples. Further, they explained the procedures involved in nematode extraction, microscopic observation, and identification. The participants actively engaged in the practical session and gained first-hand experience in handling and studying nematode samples.

Principal, Dr. Ekta Khosla congratulated and encouraged the Department to further organize such informative and beneficial workshops which equip the participants with essential skills and develop scientific temperament. Dr Seema Marwaha presented the vote of thanks. Dr. Sakshi Verma and Mr. Ravi Kumar, Assistant Professors in PG Department of Zoology, were the conveners of this event. Faculty members of Science also attended the seminar. Lab technician, Mr. Sachin assisted in making all arrangements for the event.
