Jalandhar February 2 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- The Economics Association of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar organized a Discussion on the topic “How Does Current Union Budget Affect Common People?

Students actively participated in discussion of the Union Budget 2026–27 as to how does the current Union Budget affect common people both directly and indirectly influencing income, daily expenses, job opportunities, and public services.

Some students mentioned that if the government increases the standard deduction or provides tax relief, salaried people will procure more take-home salaries, which would help families manage household expenses easily. Others pointed out that changes in taxes on essential goods and medicines could make some items cheaper and some costlier, which directly impacts monthly budgets.

A few students also discussed that the government’s focus on infrastructural development and support for MSMEs can create more job opportunities, especially for youth and small business workers. It was also highlighted that farmers may benefit from new agricultural schemes and technology support, leading to better income in rural areas. Students further added that investment in education, skill development, and healthcare will improve future opportunities and reduce financial pressure on families.

Overall, the class concluded that the budget tries to maintain a balance between economic growth and public welfare, and its actual impact depends on a person’s income and occupation. The interactive session proved to be highly productive, promoting unity, enthusiasm, and a sense of responsibility among the students. Dr Divya Budhia, Head, Department of Economics and other faculty members encouraged students to actively participate in departmental activities for overall personality development.
