Jalandhar January 12 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- NSS Unit Lyallpur Khalsa College, under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Govt. of India, observed National Youth Day to commemorate birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda ji Principal Dr. Rashpal Singh offered flower petals to the photo of Sami Vivekananda ji along with students and staff. He, in his message, said that life and teachings of Swami inspire character building and self belief which are very crucial for youth empowerment and nation building. He added that nationwide campaigns for ‘vocal for local’, physical fitness, discipline and team work are criteria for vision of Vikshit Bharat by 2047.
He also sensitized the students about the ill effects of substance use. Then, a pledge, regarding Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) launched by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, was taken by the gathering to generate awareness against drug abuse and promote positive behavioral change. NSS Chief Program Officer Prof. Satpal Singh informed that a 2 km ‘Run for Swadeshi’ for wider community engagement was organized from the college gate to Ladowali road to disseminate message of national unity and self reliance by drawing inspiration from the ideals of Swami Vivekananda.
He informed that the NSS volunteers following the principles of Swami ji have opted to participate in disaster management training of civil defense warriors organized by the district administration so that they can play their role in the times of need. During this event, NSS volunteers and non teaching staff members of the college participated with full enthusias.
