Day 2 of the 7-Day NSS Special Camp at Village Lidhran

Jalandhar December 22 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Uner the dynamic leadership of Principal Prof. Dr. Mrs. Ekta Khosla, the second day of the 7-Day NSS Special Camp organized by the NSS Unit of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya Jalandhar, was held at Village Lidhran with the active and enthusiastic participation of NSS volunteers. The theme of the day was “Environment and Sustainability and Skill Development ” focusing on creating awareness about protecting natural resources, promoting greenery, and adopting eco-friendly practices. The day began with the morning assembly, which was followed by the NSS song.

Thereafter, the day report of the previous day (inaugural session) was presented by Riya of Pragati group in English, Simran of Seva Sankalp group in Hindi, Vridhi Bansal of NSS warriors group in Punjabi, highlighting the activities and learning outcomes of Day 1. Following this, Ms. Harmanu, NSS In-Charge, briefed the volunteers about the schedule and activities planned for the day. She explained the objectives of the day’s programmes, including environmental awareness, community interaction, educational outreach, and cleanliness activities, and guided the volunteers on their roles and responsibilities.

She encouraged the volunteers to work in a disciplined manner, maintain unity, and actively participate in all activities with sincerity and full zeal. The eight groups were assigned different activities, with a special focus on environmental awareness. Mrs. Satinder Kaur, Associate member of NSS motivated volunteers to understand the importance of a clean and sustainable environment for healthy living and to actively contribute toward conservation of nature through practical activities such as rallies, tree plantation, and cleanliness drives. Thereafter, the NSS volunteers proceeded to Village Lidhran, where an environment awareness rally was organized to spread the message of saving and protecting the environment.

Volunteers actively participated in lime-washing the trees in the village

Dr. Shalinder Kumar Assistant Professor in Fine Arts guided the volunteers on the proper method of lime-washing (whitewashing) trees and explained its significance. highlighting how it helps protect trees from pests and promotes their healthy growth. Under his guidance, the volunteers actively participated in lime-washing the trees in the village. Additionally, a tree plantation drive was conducted at various locations in the village to promote greenery and environmental conservation. On the same day, a short skill and vocational training session was conducted in Government High School Lidhran by Madam Shruti and Sneha student of Cosmetology department for the students and village women.

The session focused on basic skin care, personal hygiene, and simple make-up techniques suitable for daily use. The resource persons explained the importance of choosing products according to skin type and maintaining natural beauty and cleanliness. The village women actively participated and showed keen interest, making the session informative, practical, and empowering for all participants. After the lunch session, an essay-writing competition was conducted on the topic “ Role of Youth in Promoting Gender Equality” and “The Effects of Mobile Phones on Human Relations,” in which the volunteers participated with great zeal and enthusiasm, showcasing their thoughts and perspectives thoughtfully.

Following this, a cleanliness drive was organized in the IT Lawn of the college campus, where the volunteers actively engaged in cleaning activities. Through this exercise, they not only contributed to maintaining a clean and hygienic environment but also understood the importance of personal responsibility, discipline, and community hygiene, reinforcing the broader message of the day’s theme on environment and sustainability. Dr. Deepti Dhir and Dr. Baljinder Singh also guided the volunteers.

The day’s programmes, on environment and sustainability, were successfully completed with the active participation of all volunteers. Through the rally, tree plantation, whitewashing, essay competition, and cleanliness drive, the volunteers demonstrated discipline, teamwork, and a strong sense of social responsibility.
