Jalandhar February 12 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- The occasion of 16th Barsi of S. Balbir Singh will be observed on 13 February 2024 at the Gurdwara Sahib of the college. On this occasion, Sehaj Path of Sri Guru Granth Sahib followed by recitation of Kirtan will be held. Giving this information, the college Principal Dr. Jaspal Singh elaborated that S. Balbir Singh rendered his excellent services for the betterment of higher education for thirty five years as the President of the Governing Council of Lyallpur Khalsa College. Under his able leadership Lyallpur Khalsa College created a glorious history in the field of education, cultural, sports and research.
He said that S. Balbir Singh took special steps to make useful global higher education available to the students of the region. He was the first person to take initiatives for introducing technical education including computer education in colleges. He also founded group of KCL Educational institutions.
S. Balbir Singh was a member of the Rajya Sabha from 1992 to 1998
A statesman to the core S. Balbir Singh was a member of the Rajya Sabha from 1992 to 1998 during the Congress government in the country and a member of the 13th Lok Sabha from 1999 to 2004. Before this, he remained the Minister of Health and Family Welfare from 1972 to 1977 in the Giani Zail Singh Government of Punjab.
In his different positions and responsibilities, he launched many public welfare schemes from the MP fund. From 2005 to 2008, he was the patron of N.R.I. Sabha Punjab. An enlightened administrator S. Balbir Singh worked for the welfare of society and students with complete dedication. In pursuit of his vision, the Lyallpur Khalsa College Governing Council led by Sardarni Balbir Kaur established a Technical and Engineering College besides teacher education and law colleges. His contribution to the world of academics, social service and national politics shall always remain in the minds of the people.
