Jalandhar December 4 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- The NSS Unit of Innocent Hearts College of Education organized a Voters’ Education Programme for spreading awareness and promoting voter literacy in India with the theme ‘Greater Participation for a Stronger Democracy’. The would-be teachers gave extension lectures in their teaching practice schools to provide basic knowledge related to the electoral process with the primary goal of SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation program of Election Commission of India) to build a truly participative democracy in India. The NSS volunteers encouraged many eligible citizens to vote and to make an informed decision during the elections.
A poster making competition was also organized to create awareness about the right to vote amongst the youngsters. Principal Dr.Arjinder Singh said that the objective of the competition was not only to augment awareness about encouraging people to cast their vote in the upcoming elections but also to spread the importance of vote casting in democracy. He urged students to vote and cast their vote righteously. NSS volunteer Poonam achieved first position, Gurpreet stood second and Prity obtained third position in the poster making competition.
