District Level Skilling Workshop

Jalandhar December 18 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya successfully concluded the two-day District Level Skilling Workshop for School teachers of District Jalandhar. The workshop was organized in collaboration with the State Nodal Agency, Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, and with the support of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. The programme focused on enhancing environmental consciousness and imparting practical skills to Eco Club coordinators for promoting sustainable practices. The concluding day featured a series of interactive and informative sessions.

Ar. Meenal Verma, a recipient of the prestigious “Water Hero” recognition by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, demonstrated an innovative method of preparing eco-friendly household cleaners using kitchen waste. She encouraged participants to reduce the use of chemical-based products and adopt natural alternatives to support environmental sustainability and water conservation. A session on e-waste management was conducted by Mr. Gaurav from Switch to Change, NPO , who stressed the importance of transforming individual behaviour by shifting from disposal to donation and reuse of newspapers, plastic, wood, old electronics, thereby strengthening the concept of a circular economy.

Dr. Jatinder and Mr. Sumit conducted a practical session on waste paper recycling, while Ms. Navneeta showcased creative upcycling by demonstrating the preparation of bags from discarded t-shirts. The day proved to be enriching, offering participants exposure to diverse methods of waste utilization. During the valedictory session, Principal Dr. Ekta Khosla lauded the active participation of the teachers and appreciated their commitment towards adopting green practices. She stated that the workshop aimed at sensitising educators towards the pressing need for environmental protection and empowering them to act as agents of change.

Certificates were awarded to all participants, along with “Grow Your Own Garden” kits as a token of encouragement. Dr. Seema Marwaha, Dr. Anjana Bhatia, Ms. Harpreet, along with other faculty members were present on the occasion. The participants expressed their satisfaction and gratitude to HMV for organizing a meaningful and impactful workshop and acknowledged the institution’s efforts in promoting sustainable development.
