Jalandhar August 6 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- A tree plantation drive under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam ‘campaign was organized in the campus by NSS unit of Guru Nanak Dev University, Regional Campus at Ladhewali here today. The students and faculty of various Departments joined hands to promote green belt in the campus. More than 30 types of medicinal plants like neem, ashwagandha, tulsi, calendula, costus etc. were planted at different places in the campus.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Butta Singh, Associate Dean (Academic Affairs & Student Welfare), motivated the students to go for more such initiatives in the future as well. He emphasized on the need of protecting and conserving our mother nature. He further added that tree plantation is very necessary because trees provide oxygen to the environment and make the air quality better. If more trees are planted, then the environment will become a safer place to live in.
Dr. Charan Kamal Walia, Programming Officer NSS, talked about the depleting environmental conditions and how they are affecting our lives. She further opined that caring for environment is caring for ourselves and our future generations.
Dr. Varinder Singh, Dr Nirmala, Dr. Vanita, Dr Komal, Dr. Inderpreet Kaur, Dr. Varinder Attri were also present on the occasion.
