Jalandhar October 10 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- The Department of Psychology of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar observed World Mental Health Week. The Department of Psychology organized various activities and sessions during this week with the motto to raise awareness about the importance and necessity to prioritize one’s mental health. The theme of World Mental Health Week, this year has been ‘Mental Health at Workplace’.
During this week, students were shown a documentary highlighting the importance of mental health, which discussed various types of mental disorders and the role of therapy in maintaining mental health. Also, the students who have opted Psychology as one of their major subjects performed a street play titled – ‘Uljhan se Suljhan Tak’. This street play highlighted the daily mental conflicts which one comes across in their lives and how asking for help can lead to simple solutions and better life.
On last of this week, i.e on World Mental Health Day, a one-day workshop was organized on ‘Boosting Mental Health of Professionals’ for the faculty members where Mr. Tanveer Singh (Counselling Psychologist, Military Hospital, Jalandhar) was present as a Resource Person.
One must always remember to take a break and attend to ourselves
Addressing everyone, Mr. Tanveer Singh said that it is of paramount importance to maintain work- life equilibrium. He emphasized, certainly our professsions are important and they consume a lot of enegy and focus but so is our mental health and our personal lives. One must always remember to take a break and attend to ourselves. If we shall feel good and balanced in our lives; consequently, the quality of our work too shall enhance. Also, one should not hesitate to seek a professional help when it comes to the mental health.
On this occasion, Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra put forth that our aim is to ensure that our faculty and students feel good and contented at the college and along with their physical health, their mental health is also up to the mark.
Dr. Dhingra said that in today’s times, there is a great need to take care of the mental health of youth so that they channelise their energy in right direction. With this motto, the college has also launched ‘The Listening Room’ Counseling Cell so that the students do not have to struggle with their mental conflicts and they feel heard.
Ms. Jaspreet Kaur expressed her gratitude to Mr. Tanveer Singh for sharing the cope up strategies and meaningful address.
Dr. Dhingra acknowledged and admired the efforts of Ms. Niharika and Ms. Harpreet of Department of Psychology for successfully organizing this one day workshop.
