Jalandhar September 19 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- The Psychology Forum of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, observed Suicide Prevention Month with an insightful one-day workshop and a thought-provoking poster-making competition. The initiative aimed at creating awareness, instilling hope, and fostering resilience among the students.
The workshop, conducted by Ms. Shreya Dogra, Counselling Psychologist and Founder of Mind Clinic, Jalandhar, revolved around the theme “Hope in Hard Times: Recognize, Respond and Prevent Suicide.” In a deeply engaging and interactive session, participants from diverse departments were sensitized to the signs of suicidal ideation, underlying risk factors, preventive strategies, and the critical role psychologists play in guiding individuals through vulnerable moments. The session not only enriched knowledge but also encouraged empathy and proactive responses in times of crisis.
Complementing this initiative, a poster-making competition on the theme “Voices of Hope, Pathways to Healing” provided students with a creative avenue to express their perspectives. In this contest, Sukhsehajpreet Singh of BA Semester III earned the First position, Palak of MA Fine Arts secured Second, Navneet Dhillon of BA Semester III achieved Third, and Sanchi Chauhan received the Consolation Prize for her remarkable effort.
Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra, appreciating the endeavour, remarked, “Such initiatives are vital in nurturing sensitivity, compassion, and awareness among the youth. By equipping our students with the right knowledge and instilling hope, we empower them to become pillars of support in society. The Psychology Forum deserves admiration for taking this noble step towards addressing one of the most pressing challenges of our times.”
Dr. Dhingra also lauded Ms. Niharika Mazumdar and Ms. Harpreet of Department of Psychology for their consistent dedication and commitment. She expressed her deep appreciation for their tireless efforts in shaping students into empathetic and responsible individuals capable of contributing meaningfully for others.
