Platinum Jubilee

Jalandhar March 19 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Platinum Jubilee celebration is organised on 19-20 March 2026 at the completion of 75 years of the Postgraduate Punjabi Department of Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar. Various activities related to Punjabi language, literature and culture are being organized including a heritage village and a book exhibition in which about 12 publishers participated. M.A. Punjabi was initiated in 1950. This department has produced renowned personalities in the field of Punjabi language, literature and culture, due to which it has a unique history.

On the first day of the program, inter-college quiz competition, poster making, poetry competition were conducted, and a poet’s court was also organized with the support of the Central Punjabi Writers’ Association in which renowned poets participated. The program was graced by the presence of prominent Punjabi poet, artist and Chairman of Punjab Kala Parishad, Chandigarh, Swaranjit Swai as the chief guest and renowned short story writer Dr. Waryam Sandhu and Darshan Buttar as the presiding officers of the Kavi Darbar.

During the inauguration of the program, the Honorable Principal of the college Dr. Rashpal Singh Sandhu welcomed the guests and students with warm words. He said that there are many such personalities in the Punjabi department of Lyallpur Khalsa College who have made their name in the field of Punjabi language and literature at the world level. He added that this department remains active in every way for the development of Punjabi language and it is a matter of pride to celebrate the 75th anniversary of this prestigious department. Mr. Swaranjit Swai said that this department has a unique history due to its achievements.

He added that on the occasion of its Platinum Jubilee, the department has drawn up programs related to language, literature and culture, which speaks volumes about its sincere approach to the development of Punjabi language. Dr. Waryam Sandhu said that he has been a part of this department, which he feels very proud of. He encouraged the students to acquire expertise in the field of literature and art. He congratulated the Principal of the college and Head of the department, Dr. Harjinder Singh Sekhon, for this commendable work.

Meanwhile, the poster making competitions were inaugurated by the famous poet and actress Paramjit Kaur Deol (Brampton), the poetry recitation and book exhibition were inaugurated by the Honorable Principal, Dr. Rashpal Singh Sandhu, the quiz competitions were inaugurated by Dr. Gopal Singh Buttar, former Head of the Punjabi Department, the heritage village was inaugurated by the famous Punjabi poet, Dr. Kulwant Singh Aujla, and the poet’s court was inaugurated by Mr. Swaranjit Swai Ji.

On this occasion, Darshan Buttar, President of the Central Punjabi Writers’ Association, renowned writer S. Harjinder Singh, Punjabi poet Balwinder Singh Sandhu, besides many other scholars, witnessed the grandeur of the events. The poet-darbar organized with the special support of the Central Punjabi Writers’ Association was presided over by the famous Punjabi short story writer Dr. Waryam Sandhu in which about 23 famous poets named Darshan Buttar, Lakhwinder Johal, Tarlochan Lochi, Vishal, Deepak Chanardhan, Makhan Kohar, Jagwinder Yodha, Paramjit Kaur Deol, Sushil Dosanjh, Balwinder Sandhu, Manjinder Dhanoa, Surinder Gill, Jaipal, S. Naseem Shivdutt Sharma, Rajwant Kaur Sandhu, Baljit Bal, and Harjinder Kang and many other renowned poets attended it.

In various competitions, in poster-making, Nandini (Lyallpur Khalsa College (Girls) won first place, Navleen Kaur DAV College Hoshiarpur won second place and Mahima, Trinity College Jalandhar won third place. In poetry recitation, Gurleen Chana, HMV, Jalandhar won first place, Tushar Chadha DAV College, Jalandhar won second place and Kamaljit Kaur, Kamla Nehru College (Girls) Phagwara won third place. In the quiz competition, the team of Lyallpur Khalsa College (Krish Dadwal, Rohan Sharma and Baltej Singh) won first place, the team of Government Arts and Sports College Jalandhar (Nasreen, Gaurav Chauhan and Rinku) won second place and the team of Lyallpur Khalsa College (Girls) of Education (Neha, Harsimran Kaur and Vishwadeep Kaur) won third place.

Certificates and cash prizes were also distributed to the performers while certificates were given to all the other participating students. In these competitions, Dr. Rupali Razdan, Dr. Ajitpal Singh and Prof. Sonia were the judges for poster making, Dr. Gurbachan Kaur Dua, Dr. Bhawna and Prof. Sandeep Singh were the judges for the poetry recitation competition. Finally, the Head of the Punjabi Department, Dr. Harjinder Singh Sekhon, thanked all the guests, teachers, media and students who came. Former Professor and Head of the Punjabi Department, Dr. Kulwant Singh Sandhu, Prof. Kuldeep Kaur Dosanjh, Heads of all departments of the college, Deans, teachers and students in large numbers were present in this program.
