Jalandhar January 21 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- A three-day Kathak workshop has been organized by the PG Department of Dance of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar. In this workshop, famous Kathak dancer and performer, Mr. Piyush Chauhan has come as a Resource Person. He is a senior member of Aditi Mangal Das Dance Company and has made his mark in the field of Kathak dance at national and international level. Mr. Piyush Chauhan, a brilliant disciple of Pandit Rajendra Gangani, belonging to the Jaipur Gharana, is the first person who played an important role in taking Kathak dance to the pinnacle of fame through the live TV shows like, Dance + and Aaj Ki Raat.
Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra, warmly welcomed Mr. Piyush Chauhan and put forth that our students are fortunate that they got this amazing opportunity to learn from such a talented and energetic personality who has made his footmark and established himself in the field of Kathak.
Apeejay College has also established itself as a music gharana
Mr. Piyush Chauhan while sharing his experience of coming at Apeejay College, said that alumni of ACFA are making their prominent mark in the field of Music and Dance across the country and its like Apeejay College has also established itself as a music gharana. The way the college is taking forward the rich heritage of music and dance, I am confident that our young generation will always remain connected to their roots and will contribute towards its development.
Also, ACFA is known to promote and preserve rich heritage of music and dance and this assures that our young generation stays in touch with heritage and contributes to its development.
Talking about Kathak dance, Mr. Piyush said that the use of body parts in Kathak shows shape and beauty, whereas footwork reflects rhythm. In this 3 day workshop, Mr. Piyush will explain the nuances of Kathak dance to students.
Dr. Dhingra praised the efforts of programme in-charges, Dr. Amita Mishra and Dr. Mickey Verma for successfully organizing the workshop.
