Jalandhar June 12 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- The PG Department of Commerce and Management of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar organized a role play for B.Com. FS Sem. II and B.Com. Sem. II. The role play focused on the Consumer Protection Act 2019, which is a part of their subject Commercial Law and Mercantile Law. The students played the roles of judge, lawyer, plaintiff, and witness in the leading case of Taj Mahal Hotel vs. Mr. Sapnan Dhawan and United Insurance Company.
The students showcased their talent and conceptual clarity by enacting the entire case and judgment. The students acting as lawyers presented valid arguments concerning the sections and provisions of the act. They discussed the deficiency of services under Section 35 of the Consumer Protection Act 2019 and the concept that gratuitous services are still complimentary under Section 148. They also referenced Section 149 of the Indian Contract Act 1872, which establishes a bailment contract between the hotel authorities and Mr. Dhawan since the car keys were in the possession of hotel staff. The hotel’s negligence, as the bailee, was addressed, violating Section 151 and being punishable according to Section 152 of the Indian Contract Act 1872.

The activity was organized by Ms. Diksha Bakshi, Assistant Professor in the PG Department of Commerce & Management, to give students deep insights into the application of provisions of the Consumer Protection Act 2019. Mrs. Alka Sharma, head of the PG Department of Commerce and Management, congratulated the students on their wonderful presentation. The faculty members of the PG Department of Commerce and Management were also present.
