Jalandhar April 9 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- The P.G. Department of Economics of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar organized a National Webinar on the topic “West Asia War: Economic Fallout for India” in online mode. The resource person for the webinar was Mr. Aditya Barnwal, Assistant Professor in Economics at AURO University, Surat.

Dr. Sandeep Kaur formally welcomed the guest speaker and introduced the theme of the webinar. During his insightful session, Mr. Barnwal elaborated on the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that nearly 20 percent of global oil trade passes through this crucial route. He explained how geopolitical tensions in West Asia can lead to rising oil prices and increased shipping costs.

The speaker further discussed India’s energy dependency and highlighted that disruptions in oil supply lead to rising import bills, widening of the current account deficit, and depreciation of the Indian rupee, thereby making imports more expensive. He also explained the impact on households, including increased fuel costs, food inflation, and erosion of real income.

The webinar witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of B.A., B.Sc., B.A. B.Ed., B.Com., and MBEIT, along with faculty members of the college. Dr. Divya Budhia, Head of the Department of Economics, presented the vote of thanks.

President Shri Naresh Budhia, Senior Vice President Shri Vinod Dada, the other honorable members of the Managing Committee, and the worthy Principal Dr. Pooja Prashar congratulated the students for their active participation and appreciated the efforts of the department in organizing such a meaningful and informative program that enhanced students’ awareness of economics and current global affairs.
