PCM S.D. College for Women holds Paper Reading Competition

PCM S.D. College for Women

Jalandhar October 1 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- The English Literary Society of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, organised a Paper Reading Competition on the thought-provoking theme “Reading is Becoming an Endangered Habit.”

The event invited students to reflect upon one of the most significant cultural shifts of the present age- the gradual retreat of sustained reading from everyday life amid the growing dominance of digital media, instant information and shortened attention spans.

The participants presented their ideas exploring the changing place of reading in contemporary life. Their presentations examined how the abundance of digital content, social media and fast-paced modes of communication have altered the way individuals encounter and process information. The papers reflected diverse perspectives, thoughtful arguments and a keen awareness of the need to preserve reading as an intellectual and cultural practice.

Guneet of BA. B.Ed Semester III and Mohena of BA.B.Ed Semester III bagged first position. Jui of BA Semester I and Sadhana of BA Semester I made it to second position. Mehak of BA Semester I and Krishita of BA.B.Ed Semester III managed it to third position. Consolation prizes were bagged by Preet of BA Semester I and Harpeet of BA Semester I.

The event provided students with an opportunity to strengthen their presentation and public-speaking skills while engaging meaningfully with an issue that concerns both education and contemporary culture.

President Shri Naresh Budhia, Senior Vice President Shri Vinod Dada, other members of the managing committee and Principal Dr. Pooja Prashar appreciated the initiative and encouraged the department and its Head, Dr. Aabroo Sharma, to continue organising activities that cultivate intellectual curiosity and a culture of reading among students. Mrs Gurjit Kaur, Dr. Indu Tyagi and Mrs Mamta Bajaj also witnessed the activity.
