Orientation Programme

Jalandhar July 21 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- The Academic Session 2026-27 of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar commenced on the pious notes of Havan Yajna followed by Diksha Arambh Programme of UG First Semester (all streams) under the aegis of Principal Dr. Ekta Khosla. The Principal extended warm welcome to Justice (Retd) N. K. Sud, Vice President DAVCMC & Chairman LMC and the new entrants to HMV. The inaugural Havan was organized by Dr Meenu Talwar.

The Principal, faculty members, staff and the newly admitted students participated in the sacred Havan, offering prayers and seeking divine blessings for a successful, enriching and purposeful academic year. The orientation programme, Diksha Arambh, commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and the recitation of DAV Anthem.

Justice (Retd) Sh. N. K. Sood graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Addressing the students, he congratulated them on embarking upon a new phase of life and remarked that college education is not merely a means to earn a degree but a foundation for character building, ethical values and lifelong learning. He encouraged the students to cultivate discipline, hard work, a positive outlook and a spirit of continuous learning, urging them to become a source of pride for their parents, teachers and society.

In her address, Principal Dr Ekta Khosla described HMV as a premier institution committed to academic excellence, value-based education, leadership, innovation, research, skill development and women empowerment. She emphasized that the institution provides students with abundant opportunities for holistic growth and success in every sphere of life. Referring to the institution’s historic milestone, she noted that the new entrants are privileged to become part of the first academic session of HMV’s centenary journey, making this a memorable chapter in both the institution’s and the students’ lives. She inspired the students to define clear goals, uphold discipline and moral values, and pursue their aspirations with dedication, perseverance and commitment.

As part of the orientation programme, the Deans and Coordinators of various departments familiarized the students with the academic and co-curricular framework of the institution. Dr Seema Marwaha explained the leave rules, eligibility criteria and academic timetable. Mrs. Beenu Gupta briefed the students about scholarships and short-term certificate courses. Dr. Urvashi Mishra introduced the Students’ Council and its activities, while Dr. Ashmeen Kaur elaborated on mentoring, counselling and youth welfare programmes.

Mr. Jagjit Bhatia spoke about placement opportunities, internships and career guidance. Lt. Sonia Mahindru acquainted the students with the activities and significance of the NCC, while Mrs. Kuljit Kaur outlined the programmes of the NSS, discipline and community service initiatives. Ms Harpreet Kaur introduced the student support services and welfare schemes, and Dr. Anil Bhasin briefed the students about the college transport system and related guidelines.

The speakers encouraged the students to make optimum use of the institution’s facilities for their all-round development. The programme concluded with an enthusiastic response from the newly admitted students, who appreciated the institution’s rich legacy, disciplined environment, modern academic infrastructure and student-centric approach. The Orientation Programme served as an inspiring introduction to college life, motivating the students to pursue excellence through education, discipline, values and dedicated effort. The stage was conducted by Dr. Anjana Bhatia. The event concluded successfully in a dignified and inspiring atmosphere.
