NSS Camp Days 4,5 & 6 organized at Apeejay College Foster Environmental Awareness, Health Education and Community Bonding

Jalandhar January 14 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar continued its commitment to community development and social responsibility through the impactful activities conducted on Day 4 and Day 5 of the ongoing NSS Camp.

Day 4 was dedicated to promoting environmental awareness in Village Jamsher Khaas. The NSS volunteers, under the creative guidance of Mr. Harmanjeet from the Department of Fine Arts, painted the walls of the Government Primary Smart School, adding colour, positivity and educational value to the learning environment. He taught Wall painting to village students as well.

On the same day, Ms. Meeenal Sandhu from the Department of Fashion Makeover interacted with the women of the village and shared practical tips on health and well-being. She emphasized the importance of a balanced diet and discussed simple home remedies for skincare. She highlighted that natural kitchen ingredients are safer and more beneficial than many chemical-laden cosmetic products available in the market.

Day 5 witnessed vibrant community engagement as the NSS volunteers celebrated Lohri with the villagers, strengthening cultural bonds. The volunteers also donated books to school students, reinforcing the message of education and sharing.

The day further featured a series of informative and skill-based sessions aimed at holistic development. Dr. Gagan Gambir conducted an engaging session on the creative art of T-shirt painting, encouraging students to explore artistic expression while understanding its potential as a skill-based and entrepreneurial avenue. Dr. Neeraj Katyal delivered an insightful talk on common health concerns, emphasizing that preventive healthcare, timely awareness and healthy lifestyle choices are the most effective means to ensure long-term physical well-being.

Adding to the health-focused discussions, Dr. Monika Anand sensitized the participants about anaemia, its causes and symptoms, and highlighted the crucial role of a balanced, nutrient-rich diet in its prevention, thereby promoting informed and responsible health practices among the community. The initiative received wholehearted support from the village Lambardar Inderjit Singh Shergill, Panch Vikramjit Singh, social activist Mandeep Singh, Sonu, and other residents, who cooperated fully with the college team.

On the 6th day, a technical session dedicated to the theme “Swarnim Bharat” was organised at the college. The session featured State Awardee motivational speaker Mrs. Praveen Abrol as the resource person. During her address, she acquainted students with India’s rich history and stated that the roots of Swarnim Bharat lie deeply embedded in the nation’s historical legacy.

While celebrating Lohri on the campus, NSS volunteers extended festive greetings and shared sweets and festive treats with everyone. ADC, Ms. Navdeep Kaur, PCS was present as the Chief Guest during these celebrations. She extended her heartfelt wishes of the festival to everyone. On this occasion, she appreciated the work carried out by the students during the camp. She further advised the students that, as responsible members of society, they must diligently fulfil their duties towards the community. She emphasized that in the age of social media, it is essential for students to remain socially aware, as only then can a strong and progressive society of the future be built.

Also, on this occasion, the NSS Volunteers presented a musical melody and gidha and entertained everyone.

Dr. Neerja Dhingra congratulated the NSS volunteers on the occasion and, while lighting the Lohri bonfire, wished that their lives remain filled with warmth, sweetness, and continuous progress. She appreciated the students for their sustained enthusiasm and their commitment to social causes stating that such dedication shapes responsible citizens who lead the nation towards progress. She expressed deep admiration for Dr. Simkee Dev, Dean NSS, acknowledging her visionary leadership, meticulous planning and unwavering commitment to social outreach. She also acknowledged the efforts of Dr. Raman Dhadra, Ms. Ritu Sohal and Mr. Sachin for serving as constant sources of inspiration for the students.
