Jalandhar October 1 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- The NCC Unit of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, celebrated Swachhotsav with a week-long series of impactful activities under the nationwide ‘Swachhta Hi Sewa’ Campaign.

Under the dynamic leadership of Colonel R. S. Lehal, Commanding Officer of 2 Punjab Girls Battalion, and the able guidance of Principal Dr. Pooja Prashar, the cadets actively participated in multiple initiatives promoting cleanliness, civic responsibility, and patriotism.

The celebrations began on September 27th, when cadets took a solemn pledge to keep their surroundings clean and motivated others in their families and communities to do the same.

Under the leadership of Associate NCC Officer Captain Priya Mahajan, the cadets prepared handmade dustbins from waste cartons and distributed them among shopkeepers near the college campus.

They also organized a rally, raising slogans such as “Swachhta Hi Sewa” and “Cleanliness is Everyone’s Duty”, encouraging the public to contribute to a cleaner environment.

On September 28th, the cadets paid a heartfelt tribute to Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh on his birth anniversary at Bhagat Singh Chowk, Jalandhar. Along with the offering of floral tributes, they undertook a cleanliness drive around the statue and decorated the area with a vibrant ‘Swachhtaki Rangoli’, spreading the dual message of patriotism and cleanliness. Local residents and shopkeepers also joined in the initiative, appreciating the cadets for their dedication.

The effort was warmly applauded by railway authorities

Continuing the campaign, on September 30th, around twenty cadets, under the guidance of Captain Priya Mahajan, conducted a cleanliness drive at Jalandhar Railway Station. The effort was warmly applauded by railway authorities, including Station Superintendent, Shri Hari Dutt Sharma, Chief Health Inspector, Shri Dinesh Prasad, and Commercial Inspector, Shri Rajesh Dhiman.

The concluding activity was held on October 1st, when the cadets performed a powerful ‘Nukkad Natak’ (street play) at Jalandhar Railway Station on the theme of waste management. The play conveyed the message that every citizen has a role to play in making India clean, thus promoting the spirit of collective responsibility for a healthy environment. Passengers and vendors responded enthusiastically, while railway officials praised the innovative approach of the cadets.
