CHANDIGARH November 29 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Speaking during the Zero Hour of Punjab Vidhan Sabha session on Wednesday, Phillaur MLA Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary raised the issue of implementation of the farm debt waiver scheme for all the self-funded primary agriculture cooperative societies (PACS). He said many PACS had not received the benefit of the debt waiver so far and the government should waive the loans of all the farmers and labourers immediately.

MLA Vikramjit Chaudhary said in the Vidhan Sabha that when the Congress party was in power, the government had waived the loans of lakhs of farmers and labourers. Along with a delegation, he said, he had met with then Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi for including self-funded PACS in the loan waiver scheme. CM Channi had announced the waiver but it could not be implemented because of the paucity of time, as the model code of conduct was imposed.

MLA Chaudhary further said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had stated the government had no shortage of funds, so it should provide the relief at the earliest to the poor farmers and labourers.

It is pertinent to mention here that MLA Vikramjit Chaudhary had also raised an unstarred question in Vidhan Sabha on this issue in March this year. CM Bhagwant Mann had then said that the decision to waive off the loans of members of such agriculture societies will be taken by the state government in the near future. MLA Chaudhary lamented that despite giving the assurance, the government had not given the benefit to the left out farmers and labourers.
