Lyallpur Khalsa College designated as I-STEM Catalytic center: College celebrates academic excellence

Jalandhar July 15 (Natasha)– Catering the need of society, Lyallpur Khalsa College is a premier institution of Northern India. PG Dept of Biotechnology of the college, which is founder dept in Punjab which started biotechnology since 2001. Based on reputed faculty and wide state of art infrastructure, Lyallpur Khalsa College is the only college in Punjab which is offering M.Sc. degree in Biotechnology under GNDU. Under this umbrella, it is proud moment for the college that LKC is selected and designated as I-STEM center.

It is worth mentioning that this is the only college under GNDU which was designated as I-STEM center. Dr Suman Chopra, Principal of the college also extended warm welcome stating, we are delighted to have such innovative centers with collaborations at national level.

Dr Chopra mentioned that our institute is already conducting state of the art research not only at Punjab but at national level. She added that catering the need of the society, LKC is disseminating knowledge based on employment-providing society-oriented curriculum in all courses at UG and PG level. She added that at this moment MOU was also signed with IISC Banglore. Further, Dr Arun Dev Sharma, coordinator I-STEM catalytic center/Dean Research told that this was a huge achievement for the college under the national project under office of principal scientific advisor to Govt of India under Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

I-STEM aims to connect researchers with available equipment

He told that The Indian Science Technology and Engineering Facilities Map (I-STEM) is a national web portal for sharing research and development (R&D) facilities. The catalytic center is envisioned as a strategic hub that connects academic institutions, research labs, start ups, industries with in a region to amplify resource sharing, foster inter-instructional collaborations, and accelerate research and innovation. He mentioned that our college was selected as catalytic center based on high rated research oriented publications and projects achievements of the college. I-STEM aims to connect researchers with available equipment and resources for their work across India, including Punjab.

It facilitates the sharing of research infrastructure, and other specialized equipment, across different institutions which will encourage innovation by engaging academia, industry, and start ups in a shared ecosystem. I-STEM also connects researchers with experts and technical assistance at national level. Dr Sharma, highlighted that Govt of India is also emphasizing students to pursue carrier in research as the next industry revolution will be technology driven.

Dr Sharma highlighted that with this MOU, our college will be touching new milestone’s with working in the new areas of transformative research applied to society. With our advanced curriculum, research driven approach, we are confident that LKC will immerge as leaders in this transformative field. At this occasion, President Governing council madam Balbir Kaur congratulated for this big achievement. Prof. Sanjeev Kumar Anand HOD Computer Science & IT and Dr. Palwinder Singh Bolina were also present on this occasion.
