Lyallpur Khalsa College celebrated World Ozone Day

Jalandhar September 20 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Lyallpur Khalsa College, a premier institution in North India, celebrated World Ozone Day. Various programmes were organised to spread awareness about the depletion of the ozone layer and its environmental impacts. The event was organised by the Postgraduate Department of Geography and the Postgraduate Department of Chemistry, in which students from various colleges of the area actively participated. The event started with 117 registrations in the Department of Geography and 70 in the Department of Chemistry. The event was presided over by Principal Dr. Suman Chopra.

The Principal appreciated the efforts of both the departments and gave inspiring ideas to the faculty and participants. The theme of this year’s World Ozone Day was “From Science to Global Action”, which served as the guiding principle for the activities of the programme. The students participated enthusiastically in a series of inter-college competitions, which included poster making, paper reading, slogan writing, model making and rangoli design.

The competition was organized to create awareness among the students. In the poster making competition in the Geography department, Nandini Sharma (Gov. College of Education, Jalandhar) won the first position, Harmanpreet Kaur (SR Gov. College, Amritsar) won the second position, Heena Rani (SR Gov. College, Amritsar) won the third position and Naiya (Gov. College of Education, Jalandhar) won the fourth position. In slogan writing, the first three positions went to Avelyn Kaur, Manpreet Kaur and Prabhdeep Kaur of SR Gov. College, Amritsar. The model making competition was won by Devanshu, Karmeet and Sanya (Lyallpur Khalsa College), while in the rangoli competition, Kundan and Paramjeet, both from Lyallpur Khalsa College, topped the list.

Similarly, in the paper reading competition in the Chemistry department, the first place was won by Tejveer Singh Minhas of B.Sc. Non-Medical third semester, the second place was won by M.Sc. Chemistry, two participants Ritik and B.Sc. Non-Medical third semester, Japjit Kaur, and the third place was won by Sukhraj Pal Singh of B.Sc. Medical first semester. Principal Dr. Suman Chopra, Dr. Pooja Rana, Head of Geography Department and Dr. Rajnish Moudgil, Head of Chemistry Department presented trophies and certificates to the participants. On this occasion, Prof. Navdeep Kaur, Head, Department of Economics, Dr. Navjot Kaur, Dr. Gitanjali Kaushal, Dr. Bhupinder Pal Singh, Dr. Vikas Kumar, Dr. Harjinder Kaur, Prof. Kamalpreet Kaur, Prof. Kartik and Prof. Ishu were present.
