HMV Hosts National Seminar under ‘Rebooting Punjab – Nav Sirjana’ in Collaboration with Punjab Arts Council, Chandigarh

Jalandhar February 19 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya (HMV), in association with Punjab Arts Council, Chandigarh, successfully organized a two-day National Seminar under the banner of ‘Rebooting Punjab – Nav Sirjana’, dedicated to the literary and cultural legacy of Mahinder Singh Randhawa, Dr. Surjit Patar, and the promotion of the mother tongue. The event, held with the inspiration of Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen, brought together eminent scholars, poets, and intellectuals, fostering meaningful discourse on Punjab’s literary and linguistic richness. The second day of the seminar witnessed a captivating session on ‘Tu te Main’, exploring the nuances of male-female identity in literature and beyond.

Rebooting Punjab

The discourse was graced by distinguished speakers Dr. Sakoon Singh (DAV Chandigarh) and Dr. Ramnita Saini Sharda (HMV), with the session presided over by Dr. Tajinder Harjeet. A warm ‘Green Welcome’ was extended to the dignitaries in the serene premises of HMV. The speakers from the Department of English delved deep into the binary discourse of gender and reflected on its transcendence beyond linguistic barriers. Dr. Sakoon Singh’s analysis of Shiv Kumar’s ‘Luna’ added profound depth to the discussion. The session was skillfully conducted by Dr. Veena Arora.

The event saw an intellectually stimulating exchange of ideas, featuring an esteemed panel comprising of Ms. Sarabjit Kaur Kahlon (Canada), Ms. Sheetal Thakur (Journalist) and Ms. Simranpreet Kaur (GNDU College, Jalandhar). Mr.Harjeet Singh and Dr. Jagdish Singh Kahlon also graced the occasion. The second session, presided over by Dr. Navjot (Principal, Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women, Jalandhar), featured insightful presentations by Dr. Megha Salwan (GNDU Amritsar) and Dr. Amardeep Kaur (MCM DAV College, Chandigarh).

Adding to the grandeur, Ms. Raminder Kaur (Canada) graced the session as the Guest of Honour. The proceedings were conducted with great finesse by Ms. Satinder Kaur. Principal Dr. Ajay Sareen honoured the distinguished guests with phulkaris. The concluding session brought cinema and poetry into the spotlight with the screening of documentaries and short films, celebrating Punjab’s artistic heritage. The guest of honor for this segment was renowned literary figure Biba Balwant, whose presence elevated the essence of the event.

Two remarkable documentaries ‘Main Ek Din Fer Auna Hai’ by Harjit Singh, President of Punjab Digital Arts and Cinema Academy, Chandigarh, and ‘Lafzan Di Dargah’ by Dr. Rama Sharma (HMV Jalandhar) were showcased. The poetic brilliance of Dr. Navroop and Amanjeet Kaur shone through their recitation of ‘Main te Kavita’, leaving the audience deeply moved. The seminar was a testament to HMV’s commitment to fostering cultural dialogue and academic excellence.

Principal Dr. Ajay Sareen lauded the collaborative efforts of the Punjab Arts Council, Dr. Navroop and the PG Department of Punjabi, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives in preserving and revitalizing Punjab’s rich literary heritage. With stimulating discussions, thought-provoking insights, and a mesmerizing cinematic tribute, ‘Rebooting Punjab – Nav Sirjana’ proved to be a landmark event, igniting minds and inspiring future dialogues on language, literature, and identity.
