Jalandhar October 8 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- The Department of Zoology and Environment Club, Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar, under DBT Star Scheme, celebrated Wildlife Week to raise awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation and environmental protection. The event, held under the expert guidance of Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Mrs. Ajay Sareen, witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across various Departments. The theme of the Wildlife week 2024 was ‘Safeguarding Our Natural Heritage’. On this occasion Poster making and slogan writing competitions were organized to foster engagement and creativity among the younger generation and encourage them to contribute towards wildlife conservation.
Students prepared informative and beautifully designed Posters and creative slogans to educate the campus community about the critical role wildlife plays in maintaining ecological balance. Besides, students also recited poems related to conserve Wildlife. A virtual trip to National Zoological Park, Delhi was also organized for students to introduce them to various wild animals including mammals, reptiles and birds and promote love for animals. Madam Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Mrs. Ajay Sareen emphasised that these events provide wonderful opportunity for students to reflect on the importance of conservation while honing their creative and artistic skills.
Dr. Seema Marwaha, Dean of Academics and Head of the Zoology Department, highlighted the purpose behind observing Wildlife Week annually, and stressed on this year’s theme i.e. focusing on raising awareness about the conservation status of some of the world’s most critically endangered species of both flora and fauna, calling for immediate attention and action to safeguard their future. E-certificates were given to all the participants. Dr. Sakshi Verma, incharge and Mr. Ravi Kumar, co-incharge Environment Club, were the conveners of the event. Mr. Sachin assisted in making all arrangements for the event.
